Annual Events

Residents gather with family and friends to enjoy exciting annual events. In addition, the area hosts the Show n’ Shine Car show, an Easter Family Egg-stravaganza, Relay for Life, Community Corporate Challenge, Spooktacular Halloween Party, Geocaching events and various Christmas Charity fundraisers. Almost every weekend the Slave Lake Region has events and activities for all ages.

Frost Fest

Frost Fest is a favorite February event full of winter games and family fun! Activities include a family ski trip, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, outdoor scavenger hunts, and indoor displays. After you can head to the Boreal Centre Bird Conservatory to enjoy exhibits and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate.

The Songbird Festival

The Songbird Festival takes place in June at the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park. The festival offers educational activities for the entire family, including workshops, tours, and guided hikes.

National Aboriginal Day

Every year on June 21, the Slave Lake Region holds National Aboriginal Day celebrations with traditional dancing, crafts, face painting and a feast. It’s a great way to commemorate the rich culture of the First Nation and Metis people.

The Flatbush Festival

The Flatbush Festival is held every June at the Flatbush Community Complex. Festivities include a parade and activities such as slow-pitch, a petting zoo, and horseshoe competitions.

Widewater Sports Days

Widewater Sports Days take place on the third weekend in June. Participants enjoy a variety of minor ball, co-ed slow pitch and men’s baseball games. Guests come for the weekend to camp, play ball and enjoy the summer sun.

Canada Day

Canada Day festivities in Canyon Creek and Slave Lake include BBQs and fireworks and outdoor events for the whole family. Our small and connected communities make great locations for enjoying this national holiday.

Slave Lake Riverboat Daze

Slave Lake Riverboat Daze is an annual summer festival in early July and includes a relay race, midway, duck derby, volleyball tournament, and a host of attractions to provide fun and entertainment for all interests and ages.

Sand Blast

Sand Blast (formerly the Alberta Open Sand Sculpture Championships) take place on Devonshire Beach each year showcasing sand castle sculpting skills and creations around a common theme with family friendly activities on the beach.

Smith-Hondo Fall Fair And Rodeo

The Smith-Hondo Fall Fair and Rodeo is held on Labour Day weekend each year and showcases the rodeo, chariot racing and calf roping, with a large dance and open festival.
